The Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN) recently published a special issue "How The Internet Changed Chemistry", which presented a very important point saying that "Internet plays a great role to save and reduce the development cost of pharmaceutical companies." In the article, it shared the case study of collaboration between HQL and Longthera on the anti-cancer drugs. The early stage of this project was done by Medicilon, a Chinese CRO. In order to track the progress of the project, email, Skype and monitoring software are being used regularly.
In the article, “Drug Firms Ship Research Abroad”, the author, Jean-François Tremblay, mentioned that a lot of foreign pharmaceutical companies nowadays tend to outsource their chemistry jobs to the China or India CROs in order to save their cost. Shanghai Medicilon and others were mentioned in the article.
Many foreign pharmaceutical companies tend to outsource their own chemistry works to CRO from China and other Asian countries. This could help the pharmaceutical to control their research expenses and enabled them to plunge into pharmaceutical research without investing in the labs.
Internet plays a great and helpful role in today’s pharmaceutical industry. It helps shorten the distance between US pharmaceutical companies and China CROs. It also helps the scientists and chemists to communicate easily and keep track and monitor the project easily.
